The Primary Choir gave their first concert of this academic year with a programme of Christmas Carols on Friday 11 December 2009 at the church of L’Immaculée Conception in Caluire.
As in previous years, there are around seventy children in the choir from year groups CE1 to CM2. It is particularly impressive that they seem at ease singing in two parts, the fact that the average age of the choristers is only 8.
The concert lasted just over one hour, and the packed church was treated to a variety of styles including carols in French, English and German. Highlights included “O holy Night”, “O Tannenbaum”, “Fum, Fum, Fum”, “Les Pastoureaux”, “Noel des Trompettes” and “Little Lamb”, a carol composed for the choir by Julia Lucero (1° Int). For the first time the school’s recorder club took part with a performance of “I saw Three Ships” and “Jingle Bells”. The concert ended with a rousing arrangement of “Dashing through the Snow”.
The enthusiasm and passion for singing was clearly evident on the faces of all children – this proved to be a splendid start to the musical year 2009-2010 at Ombrosa.
